April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4, 1995) began her musical journey as a 7th grader in which she began piano and guitar classes. In the seventh grade, April began taking guitar and piano classes. This ignited her interest in songwriting. At the age of 14, April was devoted for a long period of time in creating song concepts and practicing the music she was playing. In the following years, she took notes along with her father on trips to LA as well as NY. April added other themes to the song "Take My Hand" for a few of her friends who dealt with issues such as peer pressurization problems, as well as teenager suicide. Lockhart has become a sought-after lifestyle influencer, as well as being a partner with brands that are clean and healthy like Ilia and YSL, has cultivated an impressive fan base. Her birth was without a left hand. It's part of who she is--but it's hardly her whole story. The account on Instagram of Lockhart doesn't deny the fact that she has a disability. However, it doesn't make it a point to emphasize the issue. What is the message? The message is that we all share multiple identities and are far more complicated than we believe that we're. Lockhart stated in a video interview that she didn't want to be defined solely by her physical disability. She doesn't wish to become a disability advocate who only speaks about it. There are a lot of aspects of Lockhart. It doesn't impact my daily routine. I go about my business as usual and have developed my own methods to adjust. The same is true for my life, and I think it's something that needs to be addressed. Self-acceptance can be a marathon for a lifetime however Lockhart is a true inspiration for this aspect. Still she admits she's gone through phases with her body, at times, not being confident in wearing particular types of clothes showing how much of her body. Now she wears whatever outfit she likes and uploads photos on Facebook with pride. The journey itself is the most important thing. I don't know that will ever be the end of self-love. But I think that's common to everyone regardless of what the source of their anxiety. I believe that it's really important to surround yourself with people who are able to identify and feel your heart.
